THE
INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM GUIDED TOUR

Come
join fellow Columbia University alumni tour the International
Spy Museum on Saturday, September 20th from 11 am - 1 pm.
This event is open to people of all ages. The International
Spy Museum is the first and only public museum in the United
States solely dedicated to espionage and the only one in
the world to provide a global perspective on this all-but-invisible
profession. It features the largest collection of international
spy-related artifacts ever placed on public display. Please

Graduates of all ages and all schools of Barnard and Columbia are
invited to our monthly happy hours. Happy hours are held on the
last Thursday of every month at a downtown bar with convenient
Metro access.
This month, happy hour will be held on Thursday, October 30th,
from 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm. We will meet at Grille 88, located
at 1910 18th Street, NW between T and Willard Streets, NW. It is
about a 5-10 minute walk from either the Dupont Circle Red Line
Metro or U Street/Cardoza Green/Yellow Line Metro. Please look
for the Columbia university banner near the bar! This will be a
great opportunity to see old friends, meet new ones, socialize,
network, or just relax with a drink after work. Look for happy

discussion featuring three leading lights in the important
field of research on women's health:
- Vivian
Pinn, M.D., Director, Office of Research on Women's Health
(ORWH), National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr. Pinn will discuss trends in research and the latest findings
of the multi-year study of women's health issues taking place
at NIH, including the results of research on hormone replacement
therapy that have received extensive recent media attention.
- Esther
Sternberg, M.D., Chief, Section on Neuroendocrine Immunology
and Behavior, NIH.
Dr Sternberg will discuss the latest findings in mind-body
interactions in health and illness, such as the role of the
brain's stress response in increasing susceptibility to diseases.
- Eleanor
Hanna, M.D., Office of Research on Women's Health, NIH.
Dr. Hanna will discuss new research on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome,
which affects many more women than men.
The
discussion will be moderated by Rachel Gafni, '88, an NIH endocrinologist,
and the panelists will be available to take audience questions
following their presentations.

ADVENTURE
HIKE WITH FELLOW CUCDC ALUMNI

PLACE:
Great Falls National Park (Maryland) - we will meet at the upper
parking lot inside the park
Directions to Great Falls: Take I-495 to Exit 41 (Carderock/Great
Falls Exit). Follow the Clara Baron Parkway toward Carderock. You
will pass the Naval Ship Research and Development Center on the
right. At the junction with MacArthur Boulevard, turn left and
continue west to Old Anglers Inn on the right at the sharp turn
in the road. Please park in the lot opposite of the Inn. Look for
a green Dodge Durango SUV with a Columbia University banner draped
across the back. You can also call Chris Loso if you need directions
at 240-353-8222.

Join
Gina Birmingham, a wilderness exploration expert, as she
leads us through a hike at Great Falls. We will hike the
Billy Goat Trail (approximately 4 miles). It consists of
medium grade terrain with light rock scrambling in two spots.
The Billy Goat Trail has been rated as an intermediate trail
that offers some challenging spots and great views of the
VA and MD terrain. You will need to bring a backpack which
contains lunch, 3 liters of water, and any special medications
you need, a list of emergency contacts and medical conditions,
proper identification, and snacks/light lunch. Please wear
appropriate clothing that is fast drying, including breathable
socks. Your shoes are also important - hiking boots and trail
runners are preferred, but gym shoes will work as well. Hope
to see you there!
Note: You will be required to fill out some paperwork concerning
liability. You cannot hike with the group unless you sign this
form.

Harvard University on November 8th. The game is being held
at legendary Baker Field and features Harvard, the 2001 Ivy
League champion and the preseason No. 2 Ivy League team,
going to battle with new head coach Bob Shoops' revamped
Lions squad. The game begins at 1:30 pm, but the festivities
