On Saturday, January 15 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, Columbia University Club of Washington, DC (CUCDC) will be assisting Food & Friends, a local charity that provides meals and nutritional counseling for persons with life-threatening illnesses (primarily HIV/AIDS and cancer).  The CUCDC has volunteered to work in the pantry assembling/packing meals which will be distributed to the families/individuals.  We need volunteers!

Dr. David Borenstein will discuss a unique program designed to help you live a life free of back pain. Dr. Borenstein, author of Back in Control, will present his "Conventional and Complimentary Prescription for Eliminating Back Pain" and will have copies of his book available for purchase. Dr. Borenstein has helped various individuals including Columbia College Alumni Bill Grote avoid back surgery and prevent severe back pain through a series of simple, daily exercises.

Join us for a wonderful evening of basketball as the Columbia Lions travels to Annapolis, Maryland to take on the United States Naval Academy. This is bound to be an exciting game matching up two fierce competitors! You will also have the opportunity to meet other Columbia Alumni at a pre-game reception. The cost for the pre-game alumni reception (includes open bar, food, dessert) and ticket to the game is $20 per adult and $5 per child under age 10.

The International Spy Museum is the first and only public museum in the United States solely dedicated to espionage and the only one in the world dedicated to provide a global perspective on this all-but-invisible profession. The museum features the largest collection of international spy-related artifacts ever placed on public display. Please join Barnard in Washington (BIW) for a special matinee performance of "The Tattooed Girl" written by Joyce Carol Oates and directed by John Vreeke. The reviews are in and they are raving about this riveting play revolving around a famous author of a work on the Holocaust who becomes more and more reclusive, and is diagnosed with a neurological condition. As he begins a major writing assignment, he hires a strangely scarred young woman as his assistant, not knowing that she harbors deep feelings of anti-semitism. As he comes to understand and value her, she also learns from him and gains a sense of self worth from his faith in her. "Theater J has mounted a strong, moving production" - Washingtonian Magazine.

In 1924 the Washington Senators won the World Series.  That same year the Tivoli Theater began its life as an ornate movie palace in a trendy new neighborhood called Columbia Heights.  In 2005 Columbia Heights is once again trendy. Baseball has returned to Washington.  The newly renovated Tivoli is alive again as the new home of Gala Hispanic Theatre and as a national center for Latino performing arts

Join the Brown University and Columbia University Alumni clubs for a private tour of the beautifully restored building and purchase Gala Hispanic tickets at a discounted rate. Come join us at one of Washington's unusual venues for music, the Barns of Wolftrap.  The Barns are two transplanted 18th century barns from Upstate New York that have been transformed into a unique casual performance space with renowned acoustics that let you hear every note.  Grab a drink at the bar or at your seat, and enjoy a performance of Christine Lavin. After the performance - For those who need more music, we will gather at the piano bar at Le Canard restaurant in Vienna, 10 minutes from the Barns.  The Ivy Singles Social Club (ISSC) is a coalition of Ivy League, Seven Sister and other prestigious schools' regional alumni associations that sponsors social activities. Event: Hands on DC Volunteer Day

Columbia University alumni along with alumni of other universities and residents of the District will be participating in this annual volunteer effort to help renovate selected schools in the city. Hands On DC is a one-day, citywide effort to renovate DC schools and raise college scholarship funds for local students. Thousands of District residents volunteer for Hands on DC, a one-day work-a-thon that improves conditions in public schools and raises money for college scholarships, each year. 

The work-a-thon begins at 8:30am with an opening rally and registration. By 10am, groups should be at the assigned schools where instructions about the project will be dispersed.
