Experience
the hilarious Cosi Fan Tutte as it moves from 18th century
Naples to Hollywood's Sound Stage B of Monumental Pictures
in 1929. The romantic leads are a vaudeville team trying
to break into the movies. This show comes back after its
sold-out opening run in June 2003. Joe McLellan's Washington
Post review of last's June's debut performance of Cosi said:
Not only is the show musically elegant,
it also is irrepressibly funny-sometimes
even funnier than the original.Much of the
credit can be credited to [Nick] Olcott,
whose text is equal to the witty Italian
libretto, but the effect is also due to the
comic skills of the cast members.
In
Series founder and Executive Director Carla Hubner received
her MA in Musicology from Columbia University in 1970 and
conducted her post-graduate study with internationally-known
master pianist Claudio Arrau. Carla is an innovator in a
variety of musical and educational productions and events,
a music educator and prize-winning concert pianist. Carla
has performed recitals in her native Chile, as well as in
Argentina, Peru, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Mexico, Italy, Switzerland,
West Germany, Holland, England and the United States.
Now
in its 22nd season, the In Series offers innovative, high
quality, affordable, multi-disciplinary programming to Washington
metropolitan area audiences. The organization's niche within
the cultural arts spectrum of the DC metropolitan area is
defined by the organization's unique blend of classical opera,
cabaret, performance art, chamber music, poetry and zarzuela
(Spanish musical theater), and by its programming exploring
inter-cultural connections through the performing arts, especially
Latin American culture.
A
discussion with Carla and the cast will follow the performance.

The
Columbia College Club of the Mid-Atlantic, Columbia College
and Columbia 250 invite you to a special evening on Wednesday,
February 18th - the world premiere of Allegro, a new Rodgers
and Hammerstein musical. Music for the performance was produced
by Richard Rodgers (CC, '23), lyrics written by Oscar Hamerstein
(CC, '16).
A groundbreaking musical in its time, Allegro is one of the under-appreciated
gems of the Rodgers & Hammerstein repertoire. Eric Schaeffer
directs a revised, revitalized and re-imagined version of this
forgotten classic. In Our Town-style, Allegro is an ensemble
musical that chronicles four decades in the life of a young doctor.
From cradle through mid-life discovery, this Everyman awakens
to what is most important in his life. The show's unique structure
of stylish vignettes and musical sequences dazzling in their
simplicity make a stunning impact, in a way still fresh and timely
today. With new orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick and a revised
book by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change),
Signature brings the world a new Rodgers & Hammerstein musical!
Allegro
is made possible in part by James Hammerstein Productions,
Inc. and National Endowment for the Arts.

Burns (CC, '78, GSAS, '83) was chosen for this project, and
