Event: Dianne Murphy's Vision for Columbia Athletics DATE: Wednesday, January 31, 2007 Join Columbia Athletic Director Dianne Murphy and some former student-athletes for an informative discussion of the state of Columbia athletics, and her innovative ideas for the future. Event: Valentines Concert with Tiberio Nascimento (CC'76) DATE: Wednesday, February 14, 2007 TIME: 7:30 pm - 9:30 pmPLACE: The City View Room at 1957 E Street, NW COST: $30 Members, $35 Non-Members, Cash Bar Tiberio Nascimento, Brazilian classical guitarist, and former trumpeter in the Columbia Marching Band will be making a one night performance in Washington on Valentines Evening. Mr. Nascimento is known for playing Classical music with a Bossa Nova beat, and Brazilian Carnival music with Brazilian percussion instruments created by his guitar and his mouth. Between numbers he provides a brief Music Humanities lesson with references to the Columbia core curriculum. He can also be persuaded to sing Columbia marching band songs. He will be performing in the beautiful City View Room overlooking the Potomac on the campus of George Washington University. The 8:00 PM concert will be followed by a reception with Brazilian desserts and coffee, and a cash bar with potent Brazilian cocktails. A separate mailing for this event will follow. This will be a One Ivy event open to members of other Ivy Clubs. A contemporary arts center dedicated to the creation and appreciation of hand papermaking, printmaking, digital arts, and the art of the book, Pyramid Atlantic is an artist-centered community with an international and local following. Founder and Executive Artistic Director Helen Frederick invites us to view the Gallery's special exhibit and learn about its works-on-paper archives. We'll then join Resident Papermaker Gretchen Schermerhorn in her studio to see how paper is made by hand and used artistically for print-making and book arts. To top off this unique experience, we'll ask questions and share ideas over a delicious brunch at the Gallery.
